How to Add Words to Your Decorative Pillows

I recently remodeled the home decor in my living room and felt as if my couch pillows could use some more design on them.  After a little research I found just what my pillows were missing.  I discovered a great blog post on how to add words to ordinary pillows.  I found that the project was very easy and actually took less than 30 minutes.  Since I had added a little charm to my pillows I have received dozens of compliments on each of them. 

My decorative pillows are probably one of my very favorite things in my house & today I'm going to share with you how to create some of your own.

Products Needed for the Project:

• Pillow Cover
• Heat Transfer Paper
• Silhouette Machine

Making Your Pillow:

Before you can even begin your process you will need to make sure you have all the parts needed above.  I found a great deal on Silhouette heat transfer paper at https://www.craftdirect.com/silhouette.html.  They actually had quite a few options to choose from.  My pillows in my home were blue so I chose a white heat transfer paper to go with them and completely love how they turned out.

After you have all the parts necessary you can get to work.  First, use your Silhouette software to create the words or letters you want on your pillow.  I cut out the word LOVE on my Silhouette.  After you have the correct size and font you want invert the image.  Place your heat transfer paper color side down on the mat because you want to cut a negative.

Next, use your tool to pull away all the extra paper from your mat so that you can only see the word you cut out.

Then you will want to use your hot iron to attach the word to your pillow cover.  Read your heat transfer paper instructions to make sure you are attaching your word onto the cover correctly.  Once you have it attached give it some time to cool completely.

Once your word is attached and cooled properly then the fun begins.  Place your pillow form inside the cover & see how your project turned out.  Place your newly made pillow on your couch and wait for compliments from your friends and family members who enter your home.

Making a Silhouette pillow cover really is a fun & easy project.  It adds style & class to your home while turning your pillows into beautiful works of art.  I can't believe how beautiful my covers turned out & how perfectly they accent my living room.  They were seriously just the thing I needed to put the finishing touch on my room.  If you want my advice, don't go another day with your old boring pillows in your home.  Make your own pillow covers and discover what they can do for your room.
